About the Festival

Dikoma is one of the biggest initiation celebrations in South Africa, held in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. This magnificent event gathers over 6,000 initiates and attracts the attention of 150,000 people through different platforms. The Dikoma Cultural Festival & Travel Expo showcases the multi-cultural heritage, promotes tourism in the region, and provides a platform for economic development through our various programs and festivities.

What's On

1. Mofetolelo — Welcoming Ceremony. 

a welcoming ceremony for initiates arriving from the mountains. This sacred tradition marks the return of the initiates and celebrates their transition, bringing the community together in a spirit of unity and heritage.

2. Travel Expo — 2 Days

A two-day exhibition where SMMEs showcase their businesses, products and services. The expo also hosts a Summit featuring industry leaders, entrepreneurs and stakeholders discussing economic development and tourism growth in the region.

3. Gala Dinner

An exclusive gala dinner hosted by the Executive Mayor of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. This prestigious event is by invitation only, bringing together dignitaries, stakeholders and community leaders for an evening of elegance and celebration.

4. 4-Day Tour

A guided 4-day tour exploring the breathtaking beauty of the region, including the world-renowned Kruger National Park, the pristine Manyeleti Nature Reserve, and the spectacular Panorama Route with its stunning landscapes and viewpoints.

5. Stick Fight — Traditional Sport

A thrilling traditional sport participated in by men only, showcasing their talent and skill through the ancient art of stick fighting. This heritage sport demonstrates strength, agility and the preservation of cultural traditions passed down through generations.

6. Cultural Music Festival

Local traditional dancers and artists showcase their talents through electrifying stage performances. The Cultural Music Festival celebrates the rich musical heritage of the Mapulane, Tsonga, Ndebele and Swati cultures with vibrant dance, song and entertainment.
